Wouldnt it be helpful if Howard's listed the hours they're open for business somewhere? Not on website or any other site i could find. I should think hours of business would be important if they want customers to come. No? We just guess??
Nice place for breakfast! Tasty eggs Benedict, pancakes.
The spirit of Howard's has left the Cafe.Great horseshoe counter for solo breakfast eaters. Nicely cooked over medium eggs, five perfect slices of bacon, home potatoes. Friendly responsive service. Good coffee and refills. But the grease. It permeates everything. You feel it when your elbows touchdown. On the handle of your mug. You feel it accumulating on the walls and ceiling. Clogging the vents. Making the space smaller each day. The pepper can't flow through its shaker holes. Nor the salt. Is that why it only scores 90 on the inspection? We understand the toll time takes on a place, but a weekend of elbow grease would go a long way.
MoreFood was great (Salmon Benedict) but the ventilation is poor and needs to be fixed. We had headaches by the time we were finished. Thankfully, the air is clean and fresh outside. Whew!!!!
MoreI adore this place a lot. It’s not perfect but that’s kinda the whole point. I usually get a huge breakfast here on a weekend, with fruits and muffins and coffee and bacon and eggs. It’s tasty. Staff is incredibly friendly. In general it’s just always comfortable being there, surrounded by the staff and the guests, who are mostly very not fancy people. This place screams “American breakfast”, and not just because of the food, but also because of the atmosphere they created hereNote: cash only. Potatoes are no good. Don’t go here if you’re in a rush cause you’ll be missing the whole point (and service is not very fast as well)
MoreI'm a big fan of this place. It's chill, the waiters are super friendly and the breakfast menu never dissappoints. Today is the first time my coffee has been off, so I won't complain about that Unfortunately, no matter how much I want to give this place 5 stars, the place is just too dirty and unkept, and it hasn't been updated much since its opening it seems.
MoreHoward's is decent. It's old. The stag is friendly and quick. It's cramped. The portions are generous for San Francisco standards. The prices are great. The food is quick, greasy, comfort food. You get a really nice local neighborhood vibe from the place and everyone that goes here. If you're local to SF or the area consider this for a chill lazy Sunday morning. If you're a tourist you probably won't like it.
MoreAffordable prices, delicious breakfast, friendly staff, large portions. The atmosphere here is very cozy. CASH ONLY.
MoreBeen going on and off for over 6 years. It is nota fancy place, the place haven't been renovated since the 80s provably. Coffee is great, food is good, people is super nice and I WOULDN'T CHANGE THIS PLACE FOR ANY OTHER. I love it there!Like I said, don't expect any "fancy" stuff like in the hipster places on Valencia. Food is what you would expect from a dinner/breakfast place. If you are looking for a family type of feeling come. If you wanna drink mimosas keep walking.
MoreA dark, dank, & decrepit establishment, this is not a place for someone that wants extravagance. It's a small restaurant, with a good amount of tables and a small bar counter in the back. The menu is pretty small, but it has the normal stuff, and the prices are pretty cheap for a place in SF. The staff is nice and is very good at providing refills of coffee and water frequently. I got the #2, which is 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, & 2 bacon. The bacon was not as cooked as I wished, but the eggs were good. The pancakes are flatter and chewy, not fluffy and light, but still provide a good taste. For the price point and service, it's great...it's not the best place, but will satisfy a breakfast craving.
MoreExcellent service and great food. Greasy spoon atmosphere and friendly staff. Good omlets. Cash only so bring cash
MoreGreat food. Only wait for 5 minutes for the food to arrive. Service Great. My coffee was refill more than 4 times .WOW. I am not leave in the area but for sure I be back.
MoreReally cozy old school cafe. Food is great, waiter is very friendly and polite. Highly recommend visiting.
MoreWorst beef noodle in the past 7 years in the Bay. Only fat, no beef! Also got misguided on the package: it comes in two containers so don't even think to grab soups and noodles j.g er for a quick and comfy outdoor lunch. If I wasn't far already I would come back and ask to return my money. Sad and hungry.
MoreWas watching the world cup next door and I got hungry. An omelette seemed like a good idea. I think it was called the hungover. Not bad. Attentive server. Coffee always full but too watery. Dirty place it seems like it has seen many better days. Don't bring your dates here.
MorePerfect place for a real diner experience. Wonderful prices with great selection. Best if you are looking to relax and casually enjoy a meal.
MoreIf you want a classic diner breakfast with friendly service and low prices you simply can't beat this place.
MoreIt's the best breakfast I had in San Francisco. Delicious and tasty. Staff are soooo nice.
MoreDumpling Park's dumplings are top notch. Really good dough. The vegetarian dumplings and pot stickers were sumptuous. Smoky and a little cramped inside.
MoreReally good food. Only hiccup was trying to pay our bill took a while to get their attention. It is cash only.
MoreGreat food and great service! Excellent breakfast menu, especially the pancakes and bottomless coffee.
MoreThe food was okay, generic diner food. I had hotcakes, scrambled eggs, and tea. The hotcakes tasted okay, but weren't anything special. The eggs were somewhat unevenly cooked and had a piece of egg shell in them. The tea was a generic low quality black tea. The prices were low, though, so the quality seemed appropriate.
MoreVery happening breakfast/brunch spot in Inner Sunset. On a Saturday morning at 11am, it is packed! Service is quick and efficient. You can basically custom order your breakfast. Choose from different ways for your eggs to be cooked, what toppings/ingredients to include, kinds of meat sides, and sweet options. And best part of all, no need to shell out $20 for weekend breakfast - hooray!
MoreOne of my perennial favorites in this neighborhood. Beware, cash only but great prices.
MoreIncredible breakfast. A variety of options that are super cheap, and the food is delicious. The specials we've had have also been great. We've always had attentive service here as well.
MoreI really wanted to love it here because all of my coworkers raved about it. But it smelled of gas when we walked in which was nauseating. The menus were filth. The food was more grease than food and the prices were sky high for no reason. Not recommended. I wont be coming back. I didnt finish even half my plate before wanting to be sick and I'm so sorry for the fully negative review. Cmon SF!!
MoreLove this place. A great small cafe to have a normal breakfast. Staff was very friendly. Not fufu like a lot of the other places in town.
MoreFilthiest restaurant I have ever been in - though that's not what the 2 stars are for. The 2 stars are for the overcooked eggs Benedict and coffee that cost $20. In a place that looks like this, nothing on the menu should be over $10
MoreThe food was delicious and the environment was cozy. The waitress was a little snooty when I asked for a straw and she told me "we don't serve straws in San Francisco". I couldn't help but laugh and enjoy my iced tea without a straw. Overall, a nice experience and we really enjoyed the second waiter that took over when the first took her lunch break. We will be going back, for sure. The food was exactly what I was looking for at the right price.
MoreThe food was good, the servers were good. The place looked a little grimy. A lot of dust all over the walls, and there was expired ketchup. But not a bad experience.
MoreAsked for a veggie omlette with no mushrooms. Still got mushrooms anyhow. Home fries were really greasy. Good value for the price but beware - it's cash only.
MoreLovely food and excellent service
Nice people good service but I'd like it to be open during the week
It was just okay. The food felt very greasy. The juice was like anything you grab from a Walmart. Sandwich was okay. Folks inside are nice. And it’s a cash only spot. Also does feel strange that pickles come with my eggs so that’s a first.
MoreGreat food, low price, servers were nice but a little spacey but I'd still go back. Good place for a filling hungover breakfast that wont break the bank
MoreVery Good fresh meal. Great tea as well
RIP Howie's, the best greasy spoon in town. In case you were wondering this breakfast place is CLOSED and now a dumpling restaurant called Dumpling Park.
MoreAbsolutely fantastic breakfast. Fresh oj, lovely pancakes. Bacon. Etc. Howard seems like a great bloke.
MoreTasty and not incredibly expensive. Very attentive and sweet service.
Naugahyde a bit dog eared, relativity inexpensive breakfast all day, bottomless cup’o joe, cut through the kitchen to access the small 1950’s bathroom. Howard’s has regular people serve the food, folks who have a life, they have something else going, and a story to tell. The customer’s are from varied walks, but mostly the more well established San Franciscans, older, on fixed incomes. Nothing fancy, authentic anywhere USA kind of place. The food ain’t bad either. I love it.
MoreI have been going here for breakfast for a long time. Coming back home i did again and it didn't disappoint. Crab Benedict is what I got this time. It was so yummy
MoreThis place is amazing. Awesome food, fantastic service, and a perfect diner to spend any morning at. Sit around and drink 10 cups of diner coffee while reading the newspaper? Perfect for you. Have a lovely breakfast with your sweetheart? Perfect for you! Scarf down a quick breakfast while hungover on a Tuesday morning? Perfect for you!! Love this place, love the staff, love the biscuits and gravy.
MoreHoward's Cafe is nothing less than an institution in the Inner Sunset. They serve classic diner fare at reasonable prices (cash-only) and they do it well. One can never go wrong having breakfast here... especially on the weekends! Everyone who works here is great and the food is too!
MoreAwesome hole-in-the-wall! Great food, cheap prices, and an authentic atmosphere. Worth a visit, just make sure to bring cash.
MoreI go here most Fridays with my best friend. It's a very classic diner. Good food, funky atmosphere and rude wait staff. I love it!Make sure to say "Hi" to Bob if you go on Fridays. She's the best. Ask her about her photo kissing project.
MoreGreat little local diner. This spot has some age to it & it shows but that may just be part of the charm. The food is typical diner food & really good with an equally good price point.
MoreGreat breakfast at Howard's! I had a big and tasty omelette with spinach, bacon and sour cream. Everything served with potatoes and English muffins. The cafe has a warm, if a bit dark, atmosphere. The service has been perfect and you won't ever eat for your coffee refill
MoreUnfortunately it closed October 2019.
Cute little diner. The staff was super friendly and you get a lot of food for the price compared to other places near here.
MoreOur breakfast was great. Told them we were watching a game next door and they delivered hot plates to the bar! Great service, and great food.
